So one of my favorite bands is In Extremo, I particularly love Vänner och Frände which is a Swedish folks song and Óskasteinar which I readily presumed to be an Icelandic folk song. Yesterday I was looking again on YouTube hoping someone uploaded an original and indeed it was there. Now, this song hooked me, I was unable to stop listening to it, it was moving me close to tears. So in the evening I show it to my brother and he exclaims "Why is this so familiar!" turns out this is a Hungarian folk song. This is indeed so, as seen in the comments posted by the granddaughter of the Icelandic textwriter.

No matter how little remained of the original tune in the In Extremo song something resonated very, very deep inside me...
